GENERAL CONDITIONS OF PLAY
ENTRIES
Entries for Club Championships close at 5 pm on the Wednesday before the first round is scheduled to be played. Entry is restricted to Full Playing Members and is free. Entries to be recorded on the applicable entry sheet in the Clubroom, and to include all team members’ names at the time of entry. At the close of entries, should there be an uneven number of teams, the Tournament Convenor may attempt to find another team to make an even number. Members should not enter any competition where they are unable to fulfill all scheduled playing dates.
All players must agree to represent the Howick Bowling Club in the Auckland Bowls Champ of Champs tournaments, should they win the Howick Bowling Club Champs. Players are not permitted to enter any Howick Championship event if they have won the same event at another Auckland Bowls Club, in the same playing season.Entrants for Veterans competitions must have attained their 70th birthday before the commencement of the competition.A 1 – 5 year bowler is a bowler who has been a member of a bowling Club for 5 seasons or less, including the current season.
STARTING TIME.
Starting times for all Club Championships is 9.00 am unless advised otherwise by the Convenor. When a player has failed to be in position to play 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, the game will be awarded to the opponent.
PROGRAMME.
The Club Championship programme as published in the handbook, will be strictly adhered to by the Match Advisory Committee, with the only changes being due to adverse weather or significant unforeseen circumstances.
NON – QUALIFYING TEAMS. A player or team, who believes they will not qualify, must check with the Convenor whether they are required to play the third round, before leaving the tournament. Leaving without checking may unfairly impact on another team and will be deemed unsporting.
MARKERS.
All eliminated singles players, are required to mark game(s) which may be on the same day or the following scheduled day. Please check with the Convenor before leaving.
SUBSTITUTES/REPLACEMENTS.
Any change in playing personnel shall be subject to the approval of the Convenor/Match Advisory Committee. Any substitute or replacement, should be of equal or greater handicap, than the player being replaced, and preferably not have played in the event.
PRACTICE.
No practice is allowed on the same green used for the competition on the day of the competition except where a team or player has a bye and is due to meet a team or player that has already played on the same day. The team or player who has not played can practice but must consult the Convenor first to ascertain if there is a rink available, being one they are not due to play on. There are no restrictions on the format of the practice, number of bowls used or ends played at the time available. Trial ends for both teams may also be played at the commencement of the match.
TRIAL ENDS.
Before the scheduled start of the Players/Teams first game, or before continuing an unfinished game on another day, one trial end may be played in each direction, prior to the scheduled start time. Refer Law 5.1
INCORRECT JACK DELIVERY.
In the event of an incorrect jack delivery, it must be redelivered by the opposing team.
JACK GOES OUT OF BOUNDS DURING PLAY.
Where a jack goes out of the rink during play the jack is placed on the 2-metre mark, and the end continues (not a dead end)..
SCORECARDS.
It is the responsibility of the skips (markers in singles) to ensure they are completed in full with the starting time and finishing time and signed by both skips. The starting time should also be written on the scoreboard.
POSTPONEMENTS OR DELAYS IN THE START OF PLAY.

CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR.
The current shirt is to be worn with approved navy trousers, shorts or skirt. The uniform is to be worn at all times when playing in Club Championships and InterClub competitions in the summer season and when members are marking, umpiring and otherwise officiating in these events.
Only approved flat-soled bowling footwear is to be worn on both grass and synthetic greens.
CELL PHONES.
No cell phones should be switched on while playing or alongside the rinks.
NO SMOKING POLICY.
The smoking of cigarettes or E-cigarettes and vaping are banned anywhere in the Clubroom, toilets or on or alongside the greens and inside the Covered Green. Smoking is permitted in designated areas as sign posted.
ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION.
Alcohol is not permitted on the greens (refer Club Liquor Licensing rules and regulations).
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PLAYERS.
Players’ obligations are to maintain at all times a high standard of sportsmanship and fair play. This will of necessity include: -
Always playing to the best of their ability and where appropriate to perform as part of a team.
Abiding by the Laws of the Game, its ‘Regulations’ and the ‘Conditions of Play’ specified by the Match Advisory Committee.
Maintain towards opponents an attitude of respect and politeness.Maintain towards the tournament officials, volunteers and markers an attitude of respect and politeness.Must play with undue delay and in a way which does not prevent their opponents from being able to complete the required number of ends within the prescribed time limit.
NON-COMPLIANCE.
Any serious breach of these Conditions of Play which the Convenor/Match Advisory Committee considers is not in the best interest of the Club, or the game of bowls, may be referred to the Executive for review. If considered appropriate, the imposition of sanctions, including the exclusion from participating in future Club Championships over the current and following season, may be applied.
PLAYER MOVEMENT.
Skips in Pairs, Triples and Fours disciplines will only be allowed to visit the head after their first bowl has been played. Both skips must be at the mat end before both skip’s first bowl.
NOTE.
Any player entering a Club championship or official Club event, where formal ‘Conditions of Play’ apply, will be deemed to have read and accepted the Conditions of Play attached to that event as specified by the Convenor.
